Eldorado
Canyon - Nelson
Eldorado Canyon
was the home to hundreds of mines and miners dreaming of
riches. One of the famous ghost towns/abandoned mining
camps in this area is Nelson.
In 1775, Nelson was called Eldorado by the Spaniards who made the original discoveries of gold in this area.
Today this area is referred to as Nelson or Eldorado Canyon.
A hundred years later the prospectors and miners of the day
took over the Techatticup Mine.
Nelson is famous for the Techatticup mine which produced more than $2.5 million
in gold before 1942.
Located only 40-miles southwest of Las Vegas these
historical landmarks are visited by many Colorado River tours as well as
driving to the Nelson.
Mining activities were the most
prominent from about 1858 until 1945. This was one of the first major gold strike
areas in Nevada, many consider it to be the oldest.
